A day at the Le Teich Ornithological Park

Prepare to be amazed at the Le Teich Ornithological Park

The Le Teich Ornithological Reserve is an unspoilt natural area designed to provide a home for wild birds and make it easier to see them. Open to the public 364 days of the year, it promises visitors close encounters with wild birds. Although it is an ecotourism and educational destination, the Ornithological Reserve is first and foremost a natural site that must be preserved and managed on a daily basis to ensure that it remains an attractive environment for birds. Learn about the rich natural heritage of Arcachon Bay at the Le Teich Ornithological Reserve. Open from 10 a.m. and not to be missed! To take advantage of this, book at the All Suites aparthotel in La Teste-de-Buch or the All Suites hotel in Le Teich. You will be only an 18 or 9-minute drive from this incredible site!

Escape to the Le Teich Ornithological Reserve

Before you set off for this beautiful natural space, it is important to understand its history and its mission. At the end of the 1960s, passionate ornithologists realised that Arcachon Bay would be an ideal place for birds. Unfortunately, they could not settle there because nothing was perfectly suited to their way of life. The ornithologists managed to convince the commune of Le Teich to create somewhere suitable for our feathered friends. The Le Teich Ornithological Park officially opened in 1972. 40 years later, thanks to its development and the permanent presence of many varied species, it acquired the status of ornithological reserve. It is therefore an essential place to visit when you stay at the All Suites aparthotel in La Teste-de-Buch or in the All Suites Le Teich hotel. The Le Teich Ornithological Reserve invites you to walk a 3.7 mile loop. About every 300 yards, there is a hide where you can watch the birds without disturbing them. You can also enjoy four elevated views, perfect for the migration spectacle. During your visit, you can admire hundreds of birds living in total freedom. As a result, it is a good idea to take the tides into account to choose the best times to see them. Depending on the season and the time of day, you will see mute swans, mallards, common shelducks, greylag geese, black kites, curlews, and more. In fact, 323 species or subspecies have already stayed at the Le Teich Ornithological Reserve. To get a better understanding of how the birds live, take a guided tour with a naturalist from the Arcachon Bay Maison de la Nature. With their wealth of knowledge, they will explain the subtleties of the everyday life of the birds. The Le Teich Ornithological Reserve also organises activities throughout the year, so you can enjoy this magnificent place to the fullest.

Places to visit outside the Le Teich Ornithological Reserve

It would be a shame to be so close to Arcachon Bay and not pay it a visit… Not far from All Suites Appart Hôtel La Teste-de-Buch and the All Suites Le Teich hotel is the famous Dune of Pilat. About 2,000 feet wide, it stretches for nearly 2 miles and sometimes reaches dizzying heights of 337 feet. It is undoubtedly one of the region’s must-see attractions. The same goes for the particularly charming commune of Arcachon. And if you still want to see animals, visit Arcachon Zoo, which is home to nearly 800 animals.
